| NAITAS hosts visit of Saudi Arabia Hospital Execs |
|
|
| A group of leading medical executives from some of the largest hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia recently held an observation tour of hospitals and medical facilities in the country in a bid to develop the lucrative medical tourism industry which the Philippines would like to tap.
According to Ms. Angel Bognot, president of the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies or NAITAS, the visit underscores the potentials of the lucrative medical tourism market which is in its infancy stage in the country. “The future of medical tourism in the Philippines remains bright,” Bognot added.
At stake is the estimated US188 billion dollars world medical tourism market. The Philippines stands to greatly benefit from medical tourism with the services that we can offer, Bognot pointed out. We are looking at ways by which we could work successfully in tying up with international insurance firms which often acts as clearing house for the medical treatment of policy holders from the foreign countries.
Ms. Bognot was recently in Cyprus to promote the hosting of the Philippines at the World Medical Tourism Congress in the Philippines next year. During her visit, Ms. Bognot held talks with some interested hospital groups, including representatives of hospitals from African countries like Nigeria and Zimbabwe.
Recently, during a familiarization tour that the NAITAS undertook together with the Department of Tourism and major players in the local tourism industry for some hospital directors and representatives from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia were very much pleased on the medical facilities and services that they saw and evaluated first hand. Dr. Fahad Alsudiary, of Riyadh’s Minister of Health said that they were looking at sending some of our patients to take advantage of the country’s excellent medical services and facilities. “I think it is just a matter of time when the services will be realized,” the doctor added.
The rapidly growing trend of a new breed of tourists seeking affordable but quality medical health services in other countries is a result of escalating prices of these services especially in the United States and Europe and of improved medical services, skills, technology and facilties in the developing nations like the Philippines, Bognot emphasized. |
